Making your own baby pajamas can be a fun activity to complete in your free time or with your children. Follow the instruction to know how to make a simple pajamas pants from your own pattern.
Here is what you will need:
- main fabric
- wide elastic
- sewing machine
- pants or leggings to use as a pattern
Fold your toldler’s pants in half lengthwise and place the straight side (the side seams) on the fold of your fabric.
Cut out your pants. When cutting follow the shape of your pants EXCEPT:
*Add 3/4 to 1 inch on the bottom for hemming.
*Add about 1/2 inch along the legs and front middle for seam allowance.
*Add 1 and 1/14 inch to 1 and 1/2 inch to the top for your elastic casing.
Note: You are going to need to cut 2 of the shapes shown above.
Sew the sides of the fabric together with fine stitching, using your sewing machine or a needle and thread.
- Make sure the patterned/colored side of the fabric is facing each other.
- Do not sew the top (where the waist would be) and the bottom (at the foot of the pajamas leg).
- Turn pants right side out. Almost done!
Fold down the waist 1/4 inch and press it (about 1cm). Stitch a horizontal sewing all round the waistband. Leave a little space at the side where you would slot in the elastic later on.
Cut a piece of ½ inch of elastic that is long enough to fit around the waist
Insert your elastic using a safety pin to help it through the waistband. The elastic should be fit your child’s waist
Fold up and press, then fold up one more time and press. This one is about 1/2 inch. Sew around on both bottom part of legs.
Have child try the pants on to see how much to hem at the bottom of each pant leg. And done! So now you have a handmade beautiful pajamas with your own favourite fabric. You can decorate the kid’s pajamas to show your toddler’s personality. Wish you success!
